Humility isn’t a position of weakness; it’s a position of power. Humility acknowledges by an act of will that God is God. But there’s something ugly inside us that wants to keep us off our knees and keeps humility at a distance. That something often comes alive when we think someone else might be winning, or getting what we want or deserve. You know what that “something” is called? It’s the same thing that fuels empty dreams. Yes, it’s pride. Again and again…pride lives.
Taking a knee is the opposite of pride. It’s an act of humility, and it allows someone else to be the star. Humility says, “I can let you have your way; it’s not a big deal to me. God is my audience. I don’t need to compete with you.” A humble person doesn’t have to prove himself with words or actions. A humble life speaks for itself. That’s not weakness. It’s the very picture of strength.
